Going through the day as adults, it can sometimes be easy to forget the small life lessons we learned or believed in as children. I wanted to start the year with a list of reminders to be grateful. And, lots of my gratitude does come from working with children and families. Here is a short list of things children remind us of:
- The little things in life, like bubbles, pizza, and rainbows, are readily available for us to enjoy
- Play is appropriate any time of the day
- It's okay to try again; each experience is a chance to learn
- You're never too old to dream about possibilities
- Hugs and kisses can make any booboo better
- Imaginary friends are the best friends to share secrets with
- You can be friends with someone just by having the same favorite color
- Chicken soup and some sleep is really good self care when we're sick
- Saying, "I don't like it!" can end unwanted behaviors with a friend
- A game of handball or basketball can resolve conflict or misunderstandings
- An afternoon nap can help improve mood and rid crankiness
- Playing in the dirt & running in the rain is very important
- Bedtime stories are one of the best ways to end the day
- Asking why and being curious about how things work is a lifelong thing
- Coloring scribble scrabble aimlessly can sometimes be the best release
- Making up songs and singing can brighten a loved one's day
- Helping in the kitchen can help make a meal tastier
- Super heroes are real, and you can be one, too
- The natural wonders and beauties of the world are all around us
- Blanket forts with snuggle buddies and a good book can make for the best weekends
- Telling the truth is a good policy to follow
- Being kind is still one of the best gifts to offer someone
- Standing up to bullies can help others stand up for themselves
- Your difference is what makes you you, and it's something to value & keep sacred
- Honoring the similarities in others is what connects us
